YOLK

Yolk, n. Etym: [OE. yolke, yelke, Ć½olke, Ć½elke, AS. geoloca, geoleca, fr. geolu yellow. See Yellow.] [Written also yelk.]

1. The yellow part of an egg; the vitellus.

2. (Zoƶl.)

Definition: An oily secretion which naturally covers the wool of sheep. Yolk cord (Zoƶl.), a slender cord or duct which connects the yolk glands with the egg chambers in certain insects, as in the aphids.

– Yolk gland (Zoƶl.), a special organ which secretes the yolk of the eggs in many turbellarians, and in some other invertebrates. See Illust. of Hermaphrodite in Appendix.

– Yolk sack (Anat.), the umbilical vesicle. See under Unbilical.

Coffee dates back to the 9th century. Goat herders in Ethiopia noticed their goats seem to be ā€œdancingā€ after eating berries from a particular shrub. They reported it to the local monastery, and a monk made a drink out of it. The monk found out he felt energized and kept him awake at night. Thatā€™s how the first coffee drink was born.
