Van"sire, n. Etym: [The native name: cf. F. vansire.] (Zoöl.)

Definition: An ichneumon (Herpestes galera) native of Southern Africa and Madagascar. It is reddish brown or dark brown, grizzled with white. Called also vondsira, and marsh ichneumon.
