SPRAT

Sprat, n. Etym: [OE. sprot, sprotte, D. sprot; akin to G. sprotte.] (Zoƶl.) (a) A small European herring (Clupea sprattus) closely allied to the common herring and the pilchard; -- called also garvie. The name is also applied to small herring of different kinds. (b) A California surf-fish (Rhacochilus toxotes); -- called also alfione, and perch. Sprat borer (Zoƶl.), the red-throated diver; -- so called from its fondness for sprats. See Diver.

Coffee dates back to the 9th century. Goat herders in Ethiopia noticed their goats seem to be ā€œdancingā€ after eating berries from a particular shrub. They reported it to the local monastery, and a monk made a drink out of it. The monk found out he felt energized and kept him awake at night. Thatā€™s how the first coffee drink was born.
