Os`cil*la"ri*a, n. Etym: [NL., fr. L. oscillare to swing.] (Bot.)

Definition: A genus of dark green, or purplish black, filamentous, fresh- water algæ, the threads of which have an automatic swaying or crawling motion. Called also Oscillatoria.
