Xan"thi*nine, n. [Gr. xanqo`s yellow + quinine.] (Chem.)

Definition: A complex nitrogenous substance related to urea and uric acid, produced as a white powder; -- so called because it forms yellow salts, and because its solution forms a blue fluorescence like quinine.
