Scaph"ite, n. Etym: [L. scapha a boat, fr. Gr. (Paleon.)

Definition: Any fossil cephalopod shell of the genus Scaphites, belonging to the Ammonite family and having a chambered boat-shaped shell. Scaphites are found in the Cretaceous formation.
